Our PRACTICE around "why equity" is a tale of the same systemic barriers inherited by two different individuals, on two different, unpaved roads. Natives of the Asheville area, both Robert and Yashika were raised in the post-Urban Renewal era before either of them were familiar with the knowledge that they often use to inform their work.
Our PERSPECTIVE, though it is constantly evolving, is and continues to be centered around the idea that systems create environment and environment molds the individual. A system designed exclusively can't fail those it excluded but it will inevitably contradict itself.
Our PASSION is to intentionally interrupt the traditional systems which suggest that "the foot that doesn't fit the glass slipper" is the misfit instead of revamping its design for the purpose of inclusion and diversity. We believe that freedom at the expense of another person's oppression isn't freedom but rather the illusion of such and the only way to achieve true liberation is by using our free hands to free other hands.
Our PERSERVERANCE is rooted in our vision. Our vision is to influence systemic change at the highest level possible. We understand that the collateral damage done by the current structures is immeasurable, has generational impact and is still being perpetuated presently. Our investment and commitment to change for the generations coming up behind us is what we set our focus on when we must journey through the storms.
It was the individual steps, the lived experiences, the obstacles, the dedication, the trial and error and the determination to see through the "storms" that led us here; right to the realization of our PURPOSE. We know that equity is tangible, we know that inclusion is achievable and we know that the voices of the community are invaluable and we won't stop until we get there.
"The secret to change is to focus all of your energy. Not on fighting the old but on building the new."
